there aren't many antipodal points that are both on land, so the sandwich
could be quite difficult to make. Anyone digging a hole right through the
Earth would have to take care about where it came out, in case it flooded.
It would be tragic if I were to dig through to Greenwich's antipodes because
it could end up with the whole of the Pacific Ocean breaking through and
flooding this side of the world - that's wh I've never tried it.

I have a vague dream of cycling round the world at some point while I still
have knees, so I've looked into this business of antipodes. Two pairs that
I'm interested in are near Ulaan Bator (of course) and Caleta Tortel, a
coastal village in Chile close to Monte San Lorenzo; and Tarifa, Spain (the
southern tip of continental Europe) and a point near Waipu on New Zealand's
North Island.
