Thanks - that's a real compliment coming from you. Greenwich has an interesting industrial history, and this structure has a sort of indirect relevance to me. My house is in East Greenwich, which was traditionally the working class industrial part. The street I live on was laid out in 1896 and my house was occupied by a family of 10, according to the 1901 census, most of whom were men of working age. The men worked either in the cable works (still there) at the end of the street - it produced the first transatlantic communications cable - or in the stables where they kept the horses which pulled the local trams. The power station in the photo was built in the first decade of the 20th century, to power the trams and underground system by electricity. So the men in my house would probably have been put out of work by the power station. Or perhaps they found new work there.
