That's very possible.  I thought the colour change was a "tide line" from
the dampness falling down to ground level, but some pinning would be
prudent.  You'll notice that this work, as well as other tall intricate
works, is under a canopy.  They were being occasionally sprayed with a mist
of water.  Sculptures with lower relief were outside beneath the sun and
sky.
