It wasn't totally clear whether they had paired up or if one was
doing the work with the other lurking, waiting for leftovers.
On a previous trip, sometime in the last couple of years, we saw
about seven together. Another missed opportunity - I was on an
observation platform, all tripoded up, trying to get a decent long-
distance shot with SR turned off, manual focus on. One of them took
off, flew at me, passed not more than 100 feet away, about 10 feet
above my elevation. And I was not able to adjust quickly enough, got
two shaky out of focus shots. I'll have to see if I can dig those
out, maybe they were better than I remember.

Eagles are not particularily gregarious, they'd much rather not
have to work for their food, usually feeding on dead things. They
might have sensed something amiss with the goose. Somewhat unusual
too for them to pair up.

Love that moon photo! The composition is unusual with the moon in the
lower right and the birds flying down to it. Looks like you had good
fun taking the long lens out for a bit of exercise. I sure wish the
shots of the eagles taking the snow goose had worked out. I didn't
know they would try something that size.

Yesterday the high temperature here was around 70°F. Too nice to stay
inside. My wife and I drove up to the Squaw Creek refuge, about 75
miles north of us. I wasted a great photo opportunity; early in the
visit we witnessed two bald eagles take down a snow goose, then one
flew a few hundred yards away with it, then the two settled into what
seemed like would be a protracted standoff discussion of the
principle of "possession is nine points of the law" or whatever. So
we went on, thinking that one of the levee-top trails would get us
closer to their site. And never spotted them again. And the photos I
took of them from the first location are all pitiful. Fortunately we
had several more opportunities later in the afternoon with other
residents of the area.

this one taken by my wife of a scruffy looking photographer...
