The thing that I miss about film days is the simplicity, might I say
purity, of the camera's user interface. Most of the time I'm totally
ambivalent about autofocus. Occasionally I find it handy, sometimes
I'll use it to prefocus when I can't see well enough to do a good job
manually. As to auto exposure, it's rarely an advantage for me over
match needle. Why does the metering have to limit itself to +/- 3ev?
Speaking of which, I recently realized that I may have been misuing
the "focusing point" lights in my K100D, thinking that they meant that
that was where the camera had achieved focus, rather than where it was
trying to focus.
I would be ecstatic if I could get a 35mm digital back that had:
shake reduction
A good display for reviewing shots with histogram
A digital output (wifi) so I could instantly review shots on a
computer.
It would be even more wonderful if I could get separate backs for:
Black & White: every pixel is a B&W pixel (with no color filter so
higher sensitivity)
Infra Red
Low resolution/high sensitivity and/or dynamic range.
But, Last I checked my email, none of the camera companies have asked
me to spec out their new products.
