Well, I'm reading those metrics with interest for some time - found their site watching PopPhoto tests.

They supposedly avoid the differences between jpg conversions. Present a series of numbers that should tell how well or how poor the sensor react to light, the noise present, color and dynamic ranges. Interesting.

That said, I'm not reading some holy script - those metrics, assuming they are preper, are just more info of the camera capabilities. And evaluating metrics avoid the kind of Nikon and Canon praise we find so often in the press. I'm tired of reading how poor Pentax cameras are if compared to some other model with double or triple their price. That site just offer numbers, and they're not as inconsistent as they may look. For me the low index of the K20 may be just due to some substandart sample - it's Samsung counterpart got higher marks.

From those metrics I'm getting the same information I'm reading from the numeric results from PopPhoto - that Pentax is a really solid performer with best results than any camera in the same price range, that in order to outperform a Pentax some cash will be spent, and that even if we spend a lot more the differences aren't that great. And for my needs any camera from the K10 to the K20 will do, so I can choose based on other issues - cost, availability or even dedicated battery vs AA power, for example.

The other part I usually get from real world users - like in the 10~20mm zoom question. Tests (numeric please, no twisting results to favor pet brands) and real world reports from real world users - and then I choose. My choice... so I'd like to have access to any information available.

So the DxO Labs people are stirring up all kinds of trouble with their DxOMark camera sensor metrics.

Ya know, the more I read these things, the more they strike me as a complete waste of time, a distraction.

Seconded.
It's the "photodo" of the 21st century.
