Those smells from the childhood can be haunting, sometimes. After some
30 years I returned north, to the rainforest-area of my first years, and
almost cried at the smell of the rain in the forest. I never understood
how I missed that small detail after so many years of strange places.
Not that I'd return for good - I'm quite used to being within 10kms from
the sea.

One of the things I kind of miss from my old days in Moscow is snow. We
had days like that in the previous century. The smell of the air just
after good long snowfall is hmmm well, special.

It's been snowing here this evening, and looks set to continue. It's very
unusual for London - the pollution normally melts it all - so I went out
earlier this evening to take a few snaps of my street, a boatyard more or
less at the end of the street, and a pub which served me a nice warm
pint.
The pictures are no great shakes, and the amount of snow is nothing,
but the
light is peculiar. I used the eyedropper tool in LR to set the white
point
from the snow. It's most odd not to have yellow streetlamps, and the
colours
and light at the boatyard look really odd.
