One of the things I learned when I first went camping and had to cook for myself and others is this: you have to turn the bacon over. Your second lesson is, with the light on in your tent everybody outside can see everything that's happening inside. Lesson numero trois: tents are not soundproof. Quatro: it is impossible to sleep in a tent Cinq: in Britain all that snuffling and shuffling and farting outside is a badger. In the USA it's a hungry puma. Sixo: all that snuffling and shuffling and farting inside is your partner. Septicus: When you do finally pluck up the courage (and desperation) to take that walk outside at night, wear wellies. Otherwise the hedgehog spines stick in your foot.
