Hello list
After beeing away for a long time, I'm posting to this list again. I
have also sent my first submission to PUG in years (by the way: is
there still an open gallery or just a themed one?).
Now, I am new to digital photography, as I have bought my K10D some
months ago, and I would need your advice:
What kind of stuff do you use to clean the K10D memory card slot?
Has anyone actually ever cleaned it?
And as for the sensor cleaning? Do you use to clean it at home? Do
you use any liquid or just a dry clean? My wife gave me a Visible
Dust sensor brush, but I am a little concerned, you know...
Any help will be appreciated.
Take care,
João
Never had to clean the memory card slot on any of my cameras. If you
are worried about poor contact, I'd use a good cleaner lubricant like
Cramolin on a memory card's contacts, and insert the card and remove
it a few times. Then leave it out for a half hour for the stuff to dry
before using.
I've never had to clean either my K10 or my K20 sensor. It does a
pretty good job by itself when you turn it on >If that doesn't work
you can use a menu selection to shake it some more.
I do however have Pentax's sensor cleaning kit, and find it pretty
useless. I ultimately had to send my K100 D back to Pentax for a
cleaning (free) as I was unable to remove all the dirt spots with
their sticky goo brush. A wet process would probably work better, but
require more care.
If you do get something on your sensor that you can't remove, if you
camera is in warranty, send it to Pentax. If not, have a good local
repair shop clean it for you (about $25 US).
Pentax's kit warning to not leave their sticky brush on the sensor
"too long" nor press "too hard" or you will damage the cover glass of
coatings turned me off as being ill defined. The wet process makers
warnings against getting the sensor "too wet" also leave too much for
interpretation.
Any one else have any experiences with their sensors better than mine?
