This list has been kinda boring lately. So don't take it personally. Heh.

A book may cost more in energy terms to produce. But can that possibly be
more than all the energy needed to produce and maintain all the infrastructure
needed for e-books in perpetuity?

Yes. I started thinking about millions and millions of Kindle-like things
all requiring charging and some being recharged quite often (for high
readers).
Sure the charge is small for one person, but for let's see, googling, the US
population at 2008 was 303,824,640. So let's say only 200,000,000 have to
recharge their reading books. Maybe daily, maybe for newspapers as well as
books. Hmmm. And that's only the US.

Looked at that way, running a printing press probably uses a lot less power.
A LOT.

We humans tend to have such a narrow view of things. I cannot believe that
it costs more to publish a book than it does to produce and maintain the
entire internet network and all the technologies that power it.
