Because people will pay them.

A friend of mine would go to "Urban Ore" or one of the other recycling
places, and would buy used latex glove molds for $10. She'd then
polish them up and sell them to art galleries for $200.

She was doing this back when a bunch of us were playing with spud
guns. I mentioned to a co-worker that I was going to use one of these
molds to make a tennis ball cannon. Shai's reply was "Oh. A hand gun."
At that point I *had* to do it.
