Lightroom 2.3 update is available. I noticed Lightroom now recognizes

the PEF files??

Lightroom interprets the LensType EXIF parameter based on information about lenses and RAW files that is provided by manufacturers and maintained by Adobe. No tweaking of PEF files is going to fix that.

I suggest that for every lens you have that Lightroom does not properly interpret the LensType codes, you file a feature enhancement request and include a PEF file that was made with the lens. This is the surest way for Adobe to know what they're missing, and they'll update the data tables with all such information as it appears.

Do be aware that many third party lenses don't supply appropriate data to the camera body.
