Uh, no. It's quite a bit more severe than "marking". Without being too graphic, think in terms of an old cat with an intestinal disorder.

You should look for one of those pet supply superstores nearby and find a product specifically to neutralize the odor of cat urine before washing it.

Yep, I've got some stuff that has worked well on the carpet, but I can't recall the name. It's just so gross to have to mess with it before cleaning up the, uh, detritus. Wouldn't want to do anything to "set" the odor before treating with the "magic sauce".
