I once wrote a commercial for Mercedes-Benz that revolved around the
idea of a slide show. The spot consisted of a guy projecting slides of
his family vacations for a group of friends, who were seen as
foreground silhouettes. He went through slides of vacations that
spanned more than a dozen years, and the same Mercedes sedan appeared
in all of the slides. As he projected the photos, you would see the
people in the foreground sneaking out of the room. The end line was
"Nothing lasts forever, but some things seem to." It came close to
production but never quite made the cut.

Yeah, but I remember having to tie viewers to their chairs to keep

WRT Jostein's "Nylons" picture, many
of the nests seen are constructed
out of plastic netting and line. It's a savage
criticism of mankind's
abuse of the natural world, combined with a rosy
look at how nature
copes with our intrusion. Or something. Not that
I'm putting words
into Josteins art, you understand.
I did notice some of the detritus but thought it was
too subtle to be
what Jostein meant - Norwegians tend to do things on
grand scales (q.v.
fiddly bits ;) thanks for that.
BTW. I have seen some of the pictures before,
posted to the list. All
appear _much_ better on the printed page.
Particularly Bill Robb's
sunken bicycle.
I have to agree - much better. Computer screens are
good but the printed
page still holds the edge in photography.
I still prefer projected slides for sheer magnificence.
