Hi Shel:
I've had such lens for less than a week and I am still shooting some
slides to see how it performs.
So far, I only can comment on my impressions (preliminary) about the
construction of this lens. It is big, heavy, and people don't like to
see it pointing towards their noses (they would dislike it even more if
they saw how they look through the viewfinder). It weighs 430 gr. and
there isn't a screw for filters in the front part of the lens.
Focusing is smooth, the aperture ring goes in half stops from 2.5 to
f:16, and a full stop from 16 to 22. Unfortunately the focusing ring is
wider than in Pentax lenses and this means that you can't see the
aperture in the periscope window in the MX viewfinder.
It comes with three rear mount filters: UV, orange and green. It is not
necessary to screw one of them to get infinity focus, and this is a good
thing, as they interfere with the movement of the mirror in three of my
Pentaxes: MX, MZ-5 and MZ-S. This doesn't happen in the Z-1 or SFX
(bigger mirror chambers?).
I will write a more detailed comment when I have the slides developed.
