I don't think it's a joke. They'll sell a boatload of them.
I have three daughters, the oldest of which is 26 and they all love
Hello Kitty. Graphics and colours like that would definitely be a
deciding factor in them purchasing a camera.
As far as Pentax making them, I say "why not?" As long as they still
have a basic black version for the majority of their buyers, these
sorts of "special edition" models may generate lots of sales. It
worked for Leica (although I don't recall a Hello Kitty Jahre 30 model
or anything like that).
