On 19/3/09, Bob W, discombobulated, unleashed: >A great piece of film here, about a humpback whale eating a shoal of fish. >Note that earlier in the piece the cameraman appears to be right in among >the shoal - did he get away before the whale turned up? > >http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/sci/tech/7940396.stm
Bob, the techniques they use are the same as mine. Putting a diver in there with a large camera would frighten the fish and they would avoid it like they try to avoid the birds. Instead, a mini-cam on a jib would be less intrusive, and obviously less dangerous in case of surfacing whales! <http://wetpixel.com/i.php/full/light-motion-bluefin-pole-cam-mounting- kit-field-test/> I use one of these: <http://www.b-hague.co.uk/hague_handyjib_k1.htm> with an underwater minicam mounted on the end, wired to a recording device with LCD screen at the operator end. Works well. -- Cheers, Cotty ___/\__ || (O) | People, Places, Pastiche ||=====| http://www.cottysnaps.com _____________________________ -- PDML Pentax-Discuss Mail List [email protected] http://pdml.net/mailman/listinfo/pdml_pdml.net to UNSUBSCRIBE from the PDML, please visit the link directly above and follow the directions.
