Well, I've quit everything except mail, and it still thinks it's in use.
Joseph, did you re-launch the Finder? (Ctrl-Option click on the Finder
icon and select Relaunch.)
I find that the preview features in the Finder sometimes cause it to act
like an app holding files open until you "reset" it.
