I have shot a few gala events - the pricing I used was based on an
hourly rate - in the end I gave them a flat  price with copies of all
images shot (after my culling).  I would probably charge about $125
per hour.  Find out about how long the event is and go from there.
At least out where I am, they would really rather deal with a known
price than deal with hours X rate.  It is easier on the bookkeeping.
