The Nikon 70-200mm f2.8 has 2 modes or VR (SR), passive & active. Passive is what you use most of the time, & corrects for hand held motions. But if you happen to be shooting from a moving platform of some description, you have the option to flick it over to active. I've not as yet been in a situation where I have needed the active mode though.
