FWIW -
I upgraded my K20D a few days ago & got to try a few lenses on it yesterday to see if I could notice any difference in focus operation. None of this is objective as I didn't do any before & after testing but I can say that subjectively the K20D (with version 1.03) SEEM to focus noticeably quicker (both near & far focusing ) with my 300mm f4.5 FA & 16-50mm f2.8 DA* lens, as compared to focusing with version 1.0..

I can second that.
Yesterday I finally had both time and weather to play with my long focus
lenses. Shot some 30 minutes with ver 1.01 to accustom, then upgraded
the firmware to ver 1.03 and continued to shoot. I did expected some
tiny difference at best, but wow, I'm really impressed!
DA*300 "flying seagull hit rate" improved at least three times! Also my
FA100-300 (that I rather avoided in the past because of unsteady
focusing) feels now much faster as it "hunts" times less than before.

I'm pretty sure it has an impact on AF.

Yesterday was waiting for a White-throated Dipper. While waiting I
played a bit with the AF at the stream. No way I could get the damn
thing to lock except when trying at some rocks. After wards I did the
upgrade.

Today I sat by the same river, with same lens, at exactly same spot.
The light was very similar. When retesting, it focused just as we
should expect it to do. Every time I tried it focused, and it did
pretty fast to. Impressive :-)
