Maybe the limit is how many shots can be buffered in the stage before
conversion to JPEG, not how many can be buffered between JPEG conversion
and eventual write to the memory card.

The K10D shows "24" when set to best-quality JPEGs, but in fact it is
capable of shooting JPEGs until the memory card fills up if you have
a fast enough card.

On that camera, though, the number does change (from "24" to "6") when
changing from JPEG to JPEG+RAW(DNG).
