No magic applied here. Flies are best shot in the evening when they
cool down. This one was really hibernating for the night.
Lens F100/2.8 macro with the AF160FC. This ringflash is superb for
macros like this. I've set one side to 100% and the other to 50% which
puts some contrast in the subject. The assist light is also very handy
for bug hunting at dusk.
The real challenge is the background, if the background is too far
away everything is pitch black. In this case a yellow flower is the
background. Very difficult to focus on the subject and also keep an
eye on the moving background. Nice to read you noticed the background!
