Hi Malcolm,

Once you've shot the selected pics using the excellent advice from
Shel and others, feel free to send me the negs and I'll scan as many of
them as you'd like at 2700 ppi and bang them onto CDs for you, saving in
whatever format you want so you can later print out at will. If you are
interested, contact me off list and I'll send you my address.

The only thing I can ad is that if you use your camera to copy the pics
onto neg, best not to use flash, ESPECIALLY mounted on the hotshoe. This
will give you spectacular reflections on the prints. Ideally, two
tungsten or flash sources either side of the camera, so that the light
hits the print at about 45 degrees. Just as long the light source(s) are
away from the camera to avoid reflections.

If I'm out on a job filming, and a shot of a still photograph is
required, but the still photo in question can't be taken away, then I
cobble a make-shift rostrum thus:

The video camera tripod cannot be orientated to view straight down, so
(if indoors)I get a clipboard or large book and plonk it on a sofa,
against the pillows, and lay the pics against that. If the pic is curly,
I carry Blu-Tak (actually sits in a niche on the camera itself) and hold
it down with that. Lighting is by one single redhead (800 watt tungsten
light) placed about two three feet to the side of the camera.

If outdoors (at a police station or wherever) I Blu-Tak the photo
straight onto a brick wall that's in the shade. I never use the
spirit-level built into the tripod - I always view the photo through the
lens, and adjust the angle by eye to get the image parallel. Note that a
lot of still images are not vertical anyway! So adjusting to get a decent
vertical out of a family snap is sometimes not the easiest job on the
planet.

Cheers,

Cotty
