I'm one of the people who recommends that book, but I don't take their advice on this. Normally I just delete everything from the card after I've downloaded it. However, I use different cards in different cameras - SD in the Leica and CF in the Olympus - so there's no possibility of problems caused by different levels of adherence to standards. If I had different camera models / firmware using the same type of card I would probably come up with some other idea. Since my experience with a corrupt frame at the weekend though, I will make a format of reformatting after a firmware upgrade.
