I've never considered the square sensor as a credible option. IMO, the whole
square sensor thing originated from a leak about the X70 (misunderstood for
the new DSLR), which has the option of the square format among others.

IMO forget the square as well for two reasons:
1/ using a square ensor with the same horizontal size of the current
APS-c sensor would mean some parts of the square sensor would be out
of the current theoretical image circle.
2/ Why would Pentax offer a battery grip with the K-7 if the sensor is
square?
