It is your monitor .-)

I tried to look at this picture with three different monitors and on one of them I almost couldn´t see anything at all, and on another I got the posterization you mention. In my old iMac the tones are smooth and continuous. I think I´ll use this picture as a monitor test .-)

Thanks to Brian, Frank, Bob and Toine as well (and Bob, the light was this grey with hardly any contrast at all).

I see this from work, on a cheapish, uncalibrated ViewSonic monitor.
In the upper corner on the RH side there's some posterization that
doesn't look like the outline of the background forest though it has
the same hue and tone. You got to tell me if it's just my monitor, but
I thought I'd mention it.
