I acquired my A 400mm/f5.6 that way. My bid was the highest, but didn't meet
the reserve. The owner contacted me and told me he would be willing to sell
it for the reserve, which was only $24 above my max bid. I accepted, also
because it was a shop rather then a private person, with lots of positive
feedback.
