It must be good then
If he spent a couple of grand on pots and pans, he could take over
someone's job as a world-class chef.
Ya know... I heard this joke years ago and thought how appropriate.
However, after moving into a house with a gas cooktop my opinion has
changed. In our old house with the electric stove our pots and pans
were adequate and we had many fine gourmet meals cooked by myself and
my lovely bride.
When we moved here six months ago things changed. We couldn't get
used to the gas stove and I just simply blamed my skills and
incompetence. Well, one of our fry-pans started to lose its non-stick
coating and the wife decided to buy some new pans. We got a big 12
inch skillet with lid and a set of 10" and 12" omelet pans all made by
Calphalon and costing a total of US$110 (to me a LOT of money for pots
and pans).
All of a sudden we are able to cook again! We can control the heat
better and everything is coming out soooo much better.
So, as with photography, the skills of the chef/photographer matter a
lot, but the tools make a huge difference too.
Back to your normal programming...
My first set of new pots/pans was Caphalon. The original type -
anodized, no coating. I don't think you can get these anymore.
Anyhow, I have been spoiled - I have added three to the original set. I
don't cook much anymore though.
Quality in tools can translate to quality in photographs when one of the
tools is the photographer's eye,
