Well, I got an incredible surprise today. Seems that my wife and daughter have been conspiring to send me to the mountain (ok, no jokes here...cotty :). Grandfather Mountain... that is... They bought a ticket to NPW and a flight to get there! I was handed the gift this morning whilst on a Skype video call with my daughter, who is living in Germany (she is another pdml member).
Each year I check out the NPW date and make plans to go there, only to abandon them when I end up with a conflict, usually around a conference where my company typically exhibits. One year another Austin (TX) pdml member was even going to go with me if I went. This year it was the same thing, but the economy being the way it is, it looked like we were probably not going to the conference due to the lack of money. Then I got layed off in late March when my company basically went belly up, so plans were dashed because of the possibility that I would not have money either. So, here I come. If I had known way ahead of time, I could have planned a drive there, which would have meant that I could bring lots of gear in my truck. I.e. not just Pentax gear but camping gear, and beer. By beer I mean homebrew. I've always wanted to brew an "Asahi Chocolate Stout", or an "ME Super IPA" (my first SLR). I've been brewing for almost 20 years, first via kit, then ultimately going full nut case and doing the all-grain thing. But I'm coming via plane, so gear options are limited. Ok guys, I need your help. What should I bring? Does anybody have any room in their tents, RVs, etc? I could rent a mini-van and use that as sleeping quarters I suppose (done that before, hehe). Much of the stuff I'm bringing is probably going to be dominated by photo-gear, i.e. a couple of bodies, my best lenses. Dont have room for big bertha (the 6x7). I could buy a sleeping bag when I land, and maybe a pup tent (done that too). How do you guys typically set up there? I suppose that its mostly a tent type of situation huh? Does it rain often during that time there? One thing I'm going to do to make up for the homebrew is to bring some off the shelf stuff. Any requests? thanks and see you guys there... gonz -- PDML Pentax-Discuss Mail List [email protected] http://pdml.net/mailman/listinfo/pdml_pdml.net to UNSUBSCRIBE from the PDML, please visit the link directly above and follow the directions.
