David, I believe the tripod collar is placed so as to give exact balance with K10/20D without grips. It feels slightly back-heavy with my K20D + BG2 + L-bracket combo. Since it is a trombone-style zoom, it shifts the weight forward as you zoom in. Since the total weight of the lens is about 1 kg, the shift in balance is noticeable, but I don't think it creates any problem for cameras without a grip. My combo still feels a bit back-heavy at 250mm.
Note also that I've only worked hand held with this lens so far. Today has been lousy for photography, btw. Not at all as many op's as I expected. But we've had a good celebration of Constitution Day anyway. Kids are happy, weather's nice, and beer is cold. Cheers, Jostein 2009/5/16 David J Brooks <[email protected]>: > How does it balance, with out a grip.
