Toronto is reputed to have the largest population of Tamils outside of Sri Lanka in the world. In the past several months they have been staging huge protests both here and in Ottawa (seat of our federal government) regarding the civil war that has been ongoing in Sri Lanka for about twenty five years. Without getting into who's right or who's wrong, who may be terrorists and who may be engaged in genocide, what now seems obvious is that hundreds of thousands of innocent civilians have been massacred in recent months in what can only be described as a human rights disaster.
On Saturday morning (our time) the government of Sri Lanka declared victory over the Tamil Tigers.
