I had a problem like that with the M* version of this lens, the entire front element group would unscrew and come entirely off. I never had unsharp photos from it. because when I noticed it start to come un screwed, I could just tighten it up again. The A* is solidly connected. I'm not sure that I could apply enough torque to cause it to come apart that way.
Put a drop of finger-nail polish across the joint when the front piece is screwed all the way tight. It'll stop it from working out again, but all you need is regular finger-nail polish remover if you ever do want to take the front piece off.
