I have a 914 in my past too, here's my list

1962 Buick Skylark 3.5l (215 cu. in) with 2 speed auto, received as a gift from my aunt, given as a gift to my sister when I bought my first car, 1966 Thunderbird, three years old and 12k miles on it. It unfortunately caught fire while my dad was driving it. Replaced by 1968 Thunderbird, 4 door, talk about a mini limousine. My friends all thought I had a crystal ball when after a year I replaced it with a 1972 Audi Super 90. Followed almost immediately by the first gasoline crisis.

The Audi and I parted company in 1975 when my first 914, a 1974 2.0l came into my life. When I picked up a 1953 wife I decided I needed a family car and my first SAAB, a 1977 99 replaced the 914. That was followed by a 1980 SAAB 900. Then a 1984 Chrysler Town and Country. It was replaced by a 1986 Ford Aerostar. A second 74 914 2.0l joined the family as a project car. A friend had a 1986 Chevy Caprice that he had bought new, which I added to the menagerie. The Aerostar was relegated to the wife's use, and saw all of 4 miles a day in her hands. The Aerostar was left in the hands of a neighbor when we moved cross country and I could only drive one. The 914 left then too. The Caprice was replaced by a 1998 Pontiac Transport, which didn't prove to be all that reliable as I replaced the engine twice.

Picked up another SAAB, a 1986 9000, a real fun car to drive when I retired the Pontiac. Replaced it with the current 1999 Volvo V70 T5. Another project car that occurred early on was a 1937 Dodge Sedan bought from the original owner in 1969. Along the way I had three Honda motorcycles, 1971 CB175, 1973 CB350F and a 1986 Goldwing Aspencade. I still have the wife, the Volvo and the Goldwing.

It's a little too late for this year, but if you are near Santa Rosa, CA on Memorial Day next year, there will be a classic car show at the Mary Agatha Furth Center in Windsor. This year they had 120 cars displayed. Admission is free and breakfast and lunch are available for purchase.

Back then I lusted after a 914 2.0L but was too involved with sedan racing
in SCCA/IMSA to have the money to purchase one.

2005 Porsche Boxster S new - what can I say, simply the best handling vehicle I've ever driven - not your typical committee car - these are designed by people that know what a driver wants & provide it.

Exactly my feelings after only an hour in my 1973 914 2.0, 30 years
earlier, after disappointing test drives in a 240Z and a Fiat Spyder
the same week. Weight distribution, braking, cornering, shifting, and
comfort all were exceptional. Acceleration was very good for a 4
cylinder engine. Plenty of passenger room for my soon to be wife, or
my Malamute, but not both. Ended up buying her an identical used 914
for her 21st birthday in 1979, a 1.7 ltr that I had to do some
upgrading on to get the same performance and appearance groups
installed (vinyl sails, chrome bumpers, mag wheels, sway bars front
and rear, some upholstery) and yes, she was quite a bit younger than I.

Without me the car weighed 2173 lbs. A few hundred lbs less when I
auto-crossed thanks to no spare tire, no passenger seat, no door or
seat-back panels, no floor carpet front or rear, shaved Minilites vs
stock mags, no tools, lighter Gel based battery, no trunk mats front
or rear, unlined & braced but ground lightened roof. In other words,
stock. :-)

Though utilizing the flat 6 engine from the 911 series, the Boxster
was positioned as the 914 was to be an entry level car to suck you
into Porsche's grip.

If it doesn’t excite you,
This thing that you see,
Why in the world,
Would it excite me?
