From the live blog at the World Wide Developers Conference in San
Francisco:
1:47 p.m. | Coming This September: And now Snow Leopard pricing, which
there has been a lot of speculation about. Leopard was $129. The new
OS will be $29 — again, a push for market share. That’s a steep
discount on previous versions of the operating system. The OS will be
available in September–when it should be competing in the market with
Windows 7.
Big surprise. That, and all new MacBooks, with a $300 price cut for
more features and more memory. Apple is also adding Microsoft Exchange
support into applications like Mail and Calendar. That should position
the Mac as more appealing for businesses users.
New iPhone 3GS. New Camera, Now With Video. A new built-in-camera, as
was heavily rumored. The old camera was 2 megapixels. The new camera
is 3 megapixel, and not 3.2 as speculated. Auto focus is included and
a new feature - tap to focus. You can tap items that appear on the
camera to switch the camera’s focus. The camera also captures video,
unlike the last iPhone. That was an oversight Apple is now correcting.
30 frames a second VGA, with audio. “Whenever you have your iPhone
with you, you also have a video camera,” Same prices with double the
memory except for the old 8 gig model will now be $99 (probably until
they run out of stock, but not mentioned).
