I have a bride coming by tomorrow for a booking appointment, and as part of my dog and pony show, I wanted a 13 x19 borderless print of one of my nicer wedding shots. I also wanted to hype the Gold Fibre paper a bit. So I printed the file on the new Ilford paper. It looked good, but I wasn't sure it was better than what I was getting on the Epson sheet. So I printed it again. The surface of the two sheets is virtually identical. No difference can be detected at a normal viewing distance, but the Ilford paper is a bit heavier. But I was most concerned about tonality. So along with my wife, I shuffled them around on the table until I had forgotten which was which (it doesn't take me long to forget things these days), and we each picked our favorite. The light was diffuse window light. It was a close call, but after a bit of deliberation, we each picked the Ilford Gold Fibre sheet. It's a nice paper and will probably become my standard offering for weddings, portfolios and the like.
