Just back 2-3 hours ago from an extremely enjoyable week in Brittany. I discovered the dolmen that is supposedly the inspiration for the village of Asterix - Severalpix to follow. On the last evening I went in search of a menhir called Gargantua's Finger, but it was in the grounds of a place that was closed by the time I got there.
However, not wanting to waste my time, I followed up on something I couldn't understand on the local 1:25,000 map, and found a wonderful hidden trail, which I suspect the farmer wants to keep hidden. Along the trail I found this perfect Obelix-style menhir which is not marked on the map and appears to have been deliberately hidden in this grove, either by the Christians who pushed it half over, or by the farmer not wanting the heritage authorities to know about it. I couldn't get closer because the field is full of crops which I wasn't about to trample on: http://www.web-options.com/Menhir.jpg It's not a great picture, but the terrible pun came to me in a blaze of glory, and I can't resist. Here's Obelix, in case anyone out there is not familiar with him: http://www.dbis.informatik.uni-frankfurt.de/~michalek/obelix.gif Bob -- PDML Pentax-Discuss Mail List [email protected] http://pdml.net/mailman/listinfo/pdml_pdml.net to UNSUBSCRIBE from the PDML, please visit the link directly above and follow the directions.
