G'day all

A friend and I spent a couple of hours this morning at the PMA Sydney
(Photo Marketing Association) biennial imaging technology show at
Darling Harbour. The exhibition comes to Sydney every two years
(although we missed out in 2007 due to APEC).

All of the big and not so big players in photography were there and, as
usual, Pentax was disappointing. Kennedys had (I think) three K7s
available to play with but it was difficult to get at them so I didn't
bother. It looks good and nicely sized but it would have been nice to
be able to fondle one. I know Pentax is only one of a number of
manufacturers that Kennedy represents in Australia and they needed to
make space available on their stand for all of them, but it would have
been nice to have been able to get easier access to the cameras.

I was also interested in looking at the Epson stand but their printer
offerings seemed to be mainly the higher end models - certainly beyond
anything I can afford in the foreseeable future - so I moved on.

Fondling was available at the Olympus stand. All of their current
models were there and in sufficient numbers to permit close inspection.
There were about a dozen or more EP-1s. The EP-1 is (in my view)
outstanding, lack of optical viewfinder notwithstanding. I loved it (so
did my friend) - I'd really like one of those. It looks so much like a
point-and-shoot camera that it comes as a bit of a surprise to hear the
focal plane shutter firing. After seeing this camera, I've become a bit
nostalgic - I might risk putting a role of film through my Pen FT.

I really hope that there in something like this under development at
Pentax....

Cheers

Brian
