Nope, no problem. It will ask for the serial number of the upgrade
version and then ask for the serial number of the older version. The
big problem with Adobe software is when you are upgrading from an
version that was in itself an upgrade, since in the past you didn't
get a new serial number with an upgrade version. Usually a call to
customer service will sort that out.
Interestingly, when I cross-graded from Photoshop CS3 (win) to CS4
(mac) it wouldn't accept the windows serial number but the same
process worked fine going from InDesign CS (win) to CS4 (mac). In
actual fact that last one should have been PageMaker 6.5 (mac) to
InDesign CS4 (mac) but the double upgrade thing bit me and in
desperation I tried the serial number from my girlfriend's windows CS
version and it worked. For the Photoshop cross-grade I had to call
customer service for a new serial number. I try to stay legit with all
of my software but sometimes it really stretches my patience.

Hi all,
I'm considering an upgrade from CS2 to CS4, but my old copy is a PPC
Mac version and the machine I want to run this on is an Intel
Macbook Pro. Actually I'll probably install on both machines (IIRC
the license allows this as long as you don't use both at once).
Am I likely to encounter any issues with installing the upgrade on
the laptop? I don't remember if I have to have CS2 installed, or
just pop its CD in, or just type in my license code.
I feel like I'm asking a dumb question but I'm going through hell
trying to activate my old copy of Dreamweaver. Seriously this
activation crap only throws hurdles in front of the honest customers.
Cheers,
