One of the better known "bag and strap" manufacturers, might even be Tamrac, have something called the MAS - Modular Attachment System, IIRC. It includes some small pouches to attach to the strap to store things like the little remote and memory cards and stuff like that. Something like that might give you the storage you want on the strap you want.
