we were required to dress like that at school. During the week of course it was school uniform, but at the weekends we had to wear grey flannels, a tweed sports jacket and brown shoes. On Sundays we had to go to church in the morning; sometimes that involved a walk to the next village. Then after lunch we were sent out for a 6-mile walk in the country, whatever the weather. At least we didn't have to hop after the first year.
