I guess it depends where you are.

A week or so back I spent half of the day (my wife's birthday, no less!)
at an R/C model aircraft meet.  There weren't a whole lot of cameras around;
apart from one guy with a Canon+400/2.8 on a Wimberley rig I only saw a few
other DSLRs there.  I did, however, see two guys toting K1000s.
I was trying (and mostly failing) to track small objects, some of which were
flying at over 150mph*, with my 300+1.7x, and even then most of the time all
I could see was a small object in the middle of a large expanse of sky. One
of the K1000 shooters was standing fairly near me, trying to shoot the same
subjects with a 135mm (some third-party brand I didn't even recognise), so
I let him use my 80-200 for a couple of rolls of film.

* Scale model jet aircraft, with real jet engines, burning around a gallon
  of kerosene in a five-minute flight.
