It's not so much that flash is evil, which is a whole 'nuther
discussion, but that flash is non-standard. I recognize that there are
benefits to flash, but if that is the only way to view something, then
you'll prevent people who for whatever reason don't have it.

If your goal is to allow everyone to see your pictures, but still
provide the flash of flash, you could point to something like your
annsan gallery, which would have a link to the flash gallery. I
think that the other way wouldn't work, when flash doesn't work, you
don't get anything. 

Your hypothesis also missed the other obvious possiblity being that
I'm one of those people who is just a cranky bastard.
