New Yorkers: Today's Times says you miss your usual summer weather this year. Well, that's because some SOB sent it here to us in the great Northwest.

We haven't had a day over 100 degrees around here this summer, but the rest of the days have been pretty much what you've been experiencing - mid 80s to upper 90s - essentially one of the milder North Carolina summers I've experienced in a long, long time.

Humidity has been in the 80% to 90% range, spiking to 100% locally right after thunderstorms, but slacking off fairly quickly.

I've been places where it's a lot worse. I spent the summer at Ft. Hood TX in 1988 and the average daytime high was 107 deg F with 100% humidity, so it wasn't dry heat.

I hear a lot of complaints at work about the heat. The AC is set around 78 degrees, which I find quite comfortable.

I just keep asking the complainers what they're going to do if it really gets hot.

Best to stay as cool in the shade as you can and drink lots of water.
