I did what we called Museum Wraps, actually for Museums, back in the 60s/70s in San Francisco. We used B&W or Color prints on real photo paper however. We used watered down Elmer's glue spread on one side of 40"x60" double-tempered masonite, laid the print while still slightly damp, squeegeed out air from center to edges, flipped the board, applied glue, then the print, to the edges and backside about an inch in. To prevent tearing, we sanded the edges of the masonite to round them slightly.

The only problem with modern materials is dampening the paper. In most cases, it would affect the print inks in a negative manner. But it must be easy to do, as it's not very expensive to have it done to your prints submitted online.

That's the way I'd do it today. Have someone else do it, sending a sample print of yours, if needed to match and let them print and wrap it for you.

I'm getting into printing and investigating mounting and displaying methods. Gallery Wrap seems to be getting a lot of buzz lately, and I see that Hahnemühle sells a DIY system that they call gallerie wrap: http://is.gd/22oz4

They suggest it's good for both paper and canvas, but I'm a little doubtful about paper. This system relies on stretching the print as the sides are folded-up (I'd be afraid of tearing), and the print is directly exposed to the air.

So far I've had some prints done on HM German Etch (320 gsm) textured paper, and that appears to way too brittle to survive the folding process. I've also had a couple of prints done on Canon's Satin Photo paper (240 gsm) and that seems like it would be too fragile to be mounted like this.

Anyone here have experience with gallery/gallerie wraps and using paper, or canvas for that matter. Has it worked out well? What about using for exhibiting, say in a hotel lobby?
