Larry,

It's an interesting collection to look at.

A few thoughts about it:

1. The event website's photos could've been done better:
http://gaskellball.com/pictures.html
You might want to offer them yours.

2. At some point I've tried to photograph dances with a slow shutter
(1/15 and even 1/30 in case of fast swing dances).
Even if there is a flash, the blur that is similar to that in your
27513-27514 is rather annoying (to my taste). So I am trying to avoid that.

3. I just discovered a strange bug of Coolris (I don't think previous
versions had it). It does some weird color banding. It looks especially
funny on your lake pictures.
In case you don't have Coolris installed, you can see the screen
snapshot:

I shot photos for the first time with my Pentax at the Gaskell ball
last night (see my post about gels on the flash). I don't have all the
technical details worked out, for example I shouldn't shoot any slower
than about 1/15 second, especially without a monopod, even with the
flash to freeze the action. Even so, I got a few decent ones.
In addition to the dancing, it's a chance for people who like to dress
up to go all out. If you like to take pictures of pretty clothes,
there are plenty of folks that'll be happy to model for you.

With the flash on the bracket, the camera balance is way lopsided so a
bunch of my shots end up way tilted. Why is the cord for the flash set
up for it to go to the right side of the camera when all flash
brackets put it to the left?

When I was changing gels, I set my keys down, preoccupied with what I
was doing. When I went to put the camera gear back in the car, I
realized I had locked my keys in the trunk. After AAA came, a little
after midnight, I realized that the view across Lake Merritt was
rather pretty so I tried snapping a few shots.
