Hi, pleasure meeting you, ma'am.

It was around 100F or more than 30C in DC as well. I was told that it
was my fault, as apparently we seem to have brought this weather with
us. It is all too hot here as well  :-( .

Don't you believe it. August in DC is the worst month of the year. Before the invention of air conditioning, the city would have been all but abandoned during the month of August because of the heat and humidity.

That's why Congress traditionally goes into recess and takes the month off.

A little history of this great country is in order. When the Constitution was adopted it was determined a new city should be founded to host the Capital of the new country. One consideration was a more or less central location, New York City being deemed too inconvenient to the southern states.

Along the Potomac River, on the border between Virginia and Maryland there existed a pestilential swamp that no one else wanted. Seemed a fitting contribution to the establishment of our Federal government and the two states ceded the District of Columbia.

We the people have been trying to drain that swamp ever since.
