The S2 processing specs are actually marginally inferior to the latest
PhaseOne backs, the P65+ and P40+ as they lack the pixel-binning tech
PhaseOne has introduced for high-ISO shooting. And it is confirmed
that Panasonic has no involvement with the processing engines on the
M8, DMR or S2. As it happens, Leica has no involvement on the
processing hardware for any of the PanaLeica stuff and as far as I'm
aware doesn't do the software either (Panasonic does the software to
Leica specification). Leica has actually been pretty open about their
partners for the 3 in-house designs.
