The film exposes through the back like the Kodak system, the battery is separate from the film cartridge like the Kodak system. Then there's the traditional 3:2 image ratio. Now the Fuji peal apart film is probably quite a bit like Polaroid product, but since Kodak was forced from the instant film market by Polaroid, I wouldn't be at all surprised if Fuji and Kodak didn't indulge in some kind of technology trade.

The only real technical difference (and it's a big one) is the exposure through the back rather than the front, which was the Polaroid way. I'm sort of presuming that there was a technology deal of some sort between Fuji and Polaroid simply because Fuji has been using instant print technology for 15 or so years with nary a peep from Polaroid.
Battery placement and aspect ratio are details, not technology.

I have another reason to believe that the Fuji process for this particular camera is related to the Kodak system. In the 1980's Fuji produced a pair of Kodak Instant Film compatible cameras and a Kodak Instant Camera compatible Film. It appears these products died at the same time Polaroid won their patent infringement case against Kodak.

If you want to read about the Fuji products there's a description at the bottom of this page, with pictures... (The author agrees with my assessment of the new Fuji product, but that's beside the point. It's more speculation than actual knowledge in any event).
