I think that's rather neat idea. Even making camera interface OS open source or at least open (as in programmable by the customer) can be fascinating. Yes, I am a programmer and a geek, so that I like this. However, I suppose such a thing would be beneficial for wider public. Imagine that Pentax (just as an example) would host a number of plug-in or whatever is the name that camera owner can download and augment their camera in a certain way. You could make your camera faster/simpler or slower/more complex, etc...

Like I said, a neat idea really.
